There are plenty of reasons to start showing your horse...maybe you are ready for a new challenge, you have honed your skills at home and would like to test them.  For many showing is a natural progression in riding.  Most horse people I know love nothing better than hanging around horses and horse lovers.  We think that you'll find the New Mexico Paint Horse Club a fun and relaxed introduction to showing.  We do offer the full range of APHA approved classes at our shows and all of our shows are Open All Breed shows as well.  If you are new to the show scene you might want to stick to the All Breed classes.  All of the local breed clubs offer them at their shows so grab your buddy that shows Dressage, or your neighbor who does Trail riding. You might think it is intimidating at first but there is nothing further from the truth.  If you go prepared it will be an enjoyable experience for you and your horse.  This page is dedicated therefore in helping you to prepare for the ring!

There are lots of on line sources for information on showing and show prep.  The downloadable Horse Show Check list on this page was seen on www.equisearch.com.  There are tons of articles on every aspect of the show pen.  go there for tips on grooming for your horse, for training tips, etc.

If your concerns are budget oriented check out sites like www.ebay.com for great deals on show clothing and show tack.  Always a good idea to review the sellers ratings and ask questions if you are unsure of any part of the listing.

Hobby Horse has a great web site where you can not only buy new items but get lots of advice on current trends in clothing, what colors look good on your horse.   Check out their site: www.hobbyhorseinc.com.

One of the most important things that you will need if you plan to show approved APHA classes is the American Paint Horse Association rule book.  It is put out every year with updated rule changes.  You can contact your association to mail you one or you can view it online www.apha.com/forms/rulebooks.html
